Objectives
The main objectives of the project are:
- To form a consortium of partners with different scientific backgrounds to work jointly and develop materials for brain training, applicable Europe-wide
- To discover and compare current national initiatives, programmes, brain training exercises and good practice related to learning in higher age and brain training for older people
- To produce brain-training materials for older people in order to help keep their minds in good condition, to help prevent dementia and preserve independence
- To facilitate the formation of local groups for older people interested in devoting time to preserving their mental fitness
- To provide a new opportunity for people aged 50+ to meet and share the activities in a useful and entertaining way
- To provide access to brain training activities on the web, both for individuals and for groups
- To compose a handbook that will serve as a guideline and a theoretical background on brain training for professionals working with the elderly
- To contribute to scientific research by disseminating the findings of the project
Target groups
Primary:
- People aged over fifty who have no existing mental health problems and who want to maintain their mental fitness.
- Trainers and professionals providing brain training for the elderly
Secondary:
- Adult training organisations, who can use the material to organise courses
- Associations of older people, retirement homes and other residential communities for older people, who can use the material as part of a daily routine
- Researchers investigating the effect of brain training on the mental fitness of older people
